Begin your trip in Yellowknife located on the north shore of Great Slave Lake! You will start with a visit to Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre which has a large collection of objects representing cultures and people of the territory. Then you will have a visit to the Yellowknife Mining & Geological Museum to learn about the mining history and visit a former mine at Giant Mine. Then you will shop and learn on an interactive tour to see why Canadian diamonds are a “cut above the rest” at the NWT Diamond and Jewellry Centre. You will experience a day with Dene Connection in Yellowknife learning about the traditions of the Dene peoples and experience drumming, culinary, art and traditional history of this vibrant culture. In the evening you will partake in the Aurora Lights “Under Dene Skies” program where your tour departs in the evening and returns early in the morning, hearing traditional stories along the way. You will enjoy a guided city tour of Yellowknife with points of interest such as the Legislative Assembly, “Old Town” and Pilot’s Monument and Northern Heritage Center. Next, set out on a birding and photography experience with a local naturalist to find birds and wildlife abundant in the landscapes. You will hike Cameron Waterfalls and Ramparts on your journey. Explore the Wood Buffalo National Park which is Canada’s largest National Park and learn why Canada used this park to help protect the Wood Buffalo from extinction! Disembark for the 60th Parallel Territorial Park where Alberta and NWT come together. The park offers a variety of sights and trails to explore. You will also spend a day experiencing dog sledding, where you will get the chance to move about the landscape in the traditional ways.
