Never pack anything in your checked baggage that is irreplaceable (money, identification, medication, electronics, jewelry, anything of sentimental value). That way, if your bags go missing it will be inconvenient, but not devastating.
Always make sure you have baggage insurance and understand the guidelines. Insurance through Ellison Travel’s provider will allow you to spend up to $500 in total per trip for necessary toiletries and clothing when your checked luggage is delayed by the carrier for at least 10 hours while travelling.
If you are travelling with a companion, cross-pack. Divide your clothing evenly between two suitcases so you have half of your clothing if only one bag reaches your destination.
Pack a couple of outfits in your carry-on baggage as a precaution. This will give the option to wash an outfit by hand with drying time. Frequently when luggage is lost, it will catch up with you 2-3 days into your trip.
Make sure you advise the airline of missing baggage at the airport and complete an incident report before you leave.
Hold onto your boarding pass/baggage tracking numbers until all travel is complete and have your luggage in your possession.
Make sure your luggage is clearly marked inside and out with your name, address, and contact number while travelling (mobile number). Add a unique identifier to your bag so it’s easy to describe when tracking it – for example, Ellison Travel has luggage straps that wrap around your suitcase making it easy to identify.
When you print your luggage tag at the airport, make sure it has the correct destination city code on the label. For example, Toronto Pearson is YYZ. This appears on the itinerary provided by all of our travel consultants.
