Journey into the past to follow in the footsteps of Ontario’s first European settlers to learn how the Wendat people came to influence the lives of the newcomers at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons. Connect with nature to directly observe the impacts and issues that must be considered in making choices to preserve the health of the natural environment at the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre. Then head North to Sudbury, traditionally known as the mining town. With ten operating mines, two mills, two smelters and a nickel refinery, Sudbury is arguably the hard rock mining capital of the world. Sudbury has an outdoor Gallery with murals and street art in and around downtown. Take in an educational workshop at Science North, Northern Ontario’s most popular tourist attraction, then get hands on and head deep underground at Dynamic Earth, home of the Big Nickel! Stretch your limbs and climb to new heights at the ARC Climbing Centre and take a hike at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area. While on your hike you may find your way up to the Canadian flag pole – a hidden gem in itself offering an amazing view of Sudbury from the scenic lakes to the city centre. Visiting these areas you will find plenty of art, culture and history that will delight and inspire!
