Glenna Harris
Group Travel Planner | Year Started in travel: 1999
A graduate of the Travel and Tourism program at Seneca College, I got my start in the travel industry in 1999.
One of my first jobs in the industry was as a junior tour planner for school groups going to Ottawa, Quebec, Niagara Falls, New York City and Washington DC. In my few years in that role, I learned a lot about the unique characteristics of student travel.
Eager to explore the world, I went to work aboard cruise ships, starting out as a Guest Relations Officer at the Front Desk, and switching to the Shore Excursions department. I gained extensive knowledge of cruising and ports in Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean. Living on ships for a few years was such an incredible experience, and ever since, whenever I’ve had the chance to board a ship, it has felt like home.
I regained my ‘land-legs’ living in Vancouver for five years, where I worked in tour operations, welcoming Australian visitors travelling by coach and rail through the Rockies and cruising to Alaska.
Returning to Ontario I settled in London, where for seven years I sold pre-packaged group tours to seniors. As an occasional Tour Manager, I was fortunate to be able to escort about 25 land tours and cruises to all parts of the world.
Thanks to a wide-ranging career in an industry I love, I’ve travelled to over 40 countries (so far…) and have had so many once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Some of my favourite destinations have been South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, Peru, Costa Rica, Iceland, Italy and Santorini in Greece.
Now I’ve come full circle, back to student groups, and I’m thrilled to be doing it with Ellison Travel. I look forward to working with you and hope to inspire your students to open their eyes to a great big world waiting to be explored. Let’s begin their adventures!
